MOSES LAKE - People can sell coins, jewelry and other items at a National Coin Collectors Association event until Saturday.

The event is running today and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Moses Lake Ramada Inn, located at 1745 Kittleson Road.

Clint Crook, an association field manager, said the event has been going well, and they are attracting people wanting to sell coins.

"We're also seeing some sterling silverware sets, and ladies especially cashing in on mismatched, broken or just jewelry they're not wearing anymore," he said. "So we're also doing the other precious metals along with the coins."

Along with coins and precious metals, they are looking for vintage guitars, military items from Germany and Japan and old tin wind-up toys, Crook said.

"For the most part people are really focused on their metals," he said. "With tax season being right here, the older folks aren't making those paychecks, or not getting paychecks, they're turning in stuff they've held on to, and getting money for their taxes."

Appraisers meet with attendees one-on-one to view every item. The representatives make offers based on rarity, condition and market value, according to the association.

"We really like to find those coins that pay top dollar," Crook said. "Pre-1964 quarters, halves, dimes, are all 90 percent coin silver, and the silver dollars pre-1934."

The event is free to attend and people can bring in as many items as they want, according to the association.
