MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake police are investigating how a magazine full of bullets was left behind when they searched a home for a drug suspect.

About 10 p.m. on Monday, Moses Lake officers executed a search warrant at a Maple Drive address as well as a 1985 Nissan, owned by Mickey W. Fleming, 41, who police Chief Dean Mitchell said was reported to be living at the home.

While searching the residence, officers observed the Nissan drive by the residence and subsequently stopped the car, which was reportedly driven by Fleming.

Police found a total of 8 ounces of marijuana, two sets of scales, drug paraphernalia and other suspected narcotics in the car and the house, as well as $3,300 cash on Fleming's person.

Fleming was booked into Grant County Jail for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver in a school zone and possession of a legend drug.

The Moses Lake Police Department was soon after contacted by representatives of Spokane television news network KREM 2 News, who said they'd received a call from the Maple Drive homeowner who's 8-year-old nephew came out of a bedroom with the magazine cartridge that had apparently been left by a member of the drug search team.

Upon notification, Moses Lake police immediately returned to the residence to seize the magazine, Mitchell said.

"We recognize the seriousness of the incident and are investigating how the magazine became loose and left the residence," he stated Wednesday.
