PRIEST RIVER — Ashton Brooks singled to score Cameron Riley with two outs in the second inning for the game’s only run to give the Priest River Spartans a 1-0 win over the unbeaten Timberlake Tigers in the first game of an Intermountain League doubleheader Saturday.

Timberlake won the second game 7-3.

“It got the monkey off our backs,” Timberlake coach Bill Rider said of suffering its first loss of the season. “Now we can go out and just play ball. We don’t care about going undefeated, we care about winning at districts, state, and just taking it one game at a time.”

R.C. Akre received the win in the first game after allowing five hits and striking out seven batters in a complete game for Priest River (4-7, 3-4 IML).

J.D. Page suffered the loss for Timberlake despite allowing only two hits and striking out eight in seven innings of work.

In the second game, Timberlake’s Austin Allen went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Page went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Timberlake (10-1, 7-1), which hosts Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.

Reeder came in with two on and two out in the sixth and struck out the next batter, then pitched a scoreless seventh for the save for Post Falls (4-8, 1-5). Center fielder Derek Bumgarner made two diving catches, one coming with two out and a man on in the seventh to end the game.
