Flathead rolls past the Pack

Running with deeper, healthier rosters, the Flathead boys and girls track teams blew away Glacier at the crosstown track dual on Tuesday at Legends Stadium.
The Flathead boys won 12 of the 17 events, outrunning a Glacier team with many of its top athletes out nursing injuries, to win the meet 100-45.
The Braves’ Zach Perrin was excellent, dominating the distance events. Perrin won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 38.06 seconds and qualified for the 3,200 with a time of 9:39.83.
George Sherwood scored his first points of the season in winning the 100 and first-year runner Matt Tokarz won two events, placed second in a third and helped the Braves to victory in each of their relays.
“He’s really a plus,” Flathead boys coach Dan Hodge said of Tokarz. “He had an outstanding day. He’s a runner.”
Tokarz won the triple jump with a distance of 45 feet, 2 1/4 inches and took the top spot in the long jump in his first time competing in the event, spanning 20-3 1/2. He finished second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-9.
Chris Cronk just missed a state qualifying height of 6-3 in the high jump, but won the meet at 6-1. Likewise, Glacier’s Travis Komenda just missed a personal best height of 14 feet in the pole vault, settling for a win at 13 feet.
Wolfpack teammate Troy Fraley turned in a qualifying time of 2:00.24 in the 800 and Anthony Gugliuzza edged to victory in the 200 by just .03 seconds, finishing in 23.46 seconds. Other victories for the Pack came from Greg Dalton in the 110 hurdles and Jacob Tudahl in the discus.
Flathead saw comfortable victories from John Collins in the 300 hurdles (41.16), Kevin Grosswiler in the 400 (52.98) Ian Kirchoff in the shot put (48-3 1/2) and Tanner Thiel in the javelin (165-3).
Tess Brenneman led a fast group of Bravettes to an easy victory over Glacier, winning 112-33 in team points.
Brenneman won the 100 (13.15), 200 (26.19) and the long jump, matching her best mark in the latter with a distance of 18-7 3/4.
Other double winners for Flathead were Bailey Hughes, who won both the 800 and the 1,600, and Kelsey Davis, who won the shot put and threw a qualifying distance of 119-1 in the javelin.
Briana Patyk qualified in the high jump with a winning leap of 5-1 and Kwyn Johnson led a long pack of triple jumpers with a distance of 37 feet. Other wins for the Bravettes came from Maddison Seaman in the 400, Paige Bouma in the 3,200, Alison Lunde in the 300 hurdles and Kayla Mitchell in the pole vault. Flathead won both relays and qualified for state in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:08.77, despite running into a strong headwind on the home stretch.
“We have a lot of depth, it’s fun,” Flathead girls coach Kirtlye Lohof said. “It’s a real treat for sure.”
Glacier got another strong day from Lexy Boschee, who won the 100 hurdles and broke the school record in the triple jump with a distance of 36-7 3/4. Leah Cook finished third in the triple jump, clearing 36 3/4.
Abby Carlson was the only other Wolfpack girl to win an event, throwing 104-2 in the discus.
