Last Sunday, the Men With No Name, a barbershop octet from the Flathead Valleyaires men’s barbershop chorus, stormed Bigfork singing two mini-concerts at the “Guns of the Old West” gun show, an intermission performance at the Bigfork Community Players performance of “Prairie Heart,” and at almost a dozen shops and street corners along Electric Avenue.

“And the fact that Bigfork had a Wild West gun show and the theater had a performance of Prairie Heart that afternoon just made it an ideal venue for our western songs,” said Charles Petersen, who sang tenor.

The group got into the spirit of the period by working up three cowboy tunes for their performances: “Ridin’ Down the Canyon,” “Cool Water,” and “Home on the Range.”

“We don’t often get a chance to dress up like cowboys and sing Western tunes,” said Dave Vale who sang bass. “It’s really a lot of fun to sing them in barbershop style.”

The Flathead Valleyaires, the parent barbershop chorus from which the Men With No Name are drawn, will be giving a performance next Saturday, April 28, at Glacier High School in Kalispell starting at 7:34 p.m. The concert will feature an eclectic selection of songs ranging from classic barbershop tunes up through The Beatles. Tickets are available at the Pocketstone Café and at the door.
