Gubernatorial candidates to debate

Candidates for Montana governor and lieutenant governor will be at the Whitefish Middle School auditorium for a “meet and greet” session and a debate on Wednesday, May 2.

A private meeting between candidates and event sponsors will take place from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by an informal lunch reception in the auditorium lobby. A debate will be held in the auditorium from noon to 1:30 p.m. The debate will be recorded for re-broadcasting.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
