MDT youth art contest promotes careers in aviation and aerospace

Students with an interest in aviation or aerospace, along with a penchant for art, are encouraged to enter the annual Aviation Awareness Art Contest. The contest is sponsored by the Montana Department of Transportation’s Aeronautics Division. Montana students aged 6 to 18 are eligible to enter.
The goal of the contest is to promote career opportunities in the aviation and aerospace industries. It is also to broaden awareness of the importance of aviation and aerospace in the economy.
First through third place prizes will be awarded in three categories for the best aviation themed posters. Submissions will be divided into categories based on age. The categories are ages 6-10, 11-15, and 16-18.
The first prize in each category is a round trip flight from the winner’s hometown to Helena for the winner and his or her two parents or guardians. In Helena, the winners will receive a trophy and certificate of achievement presented by Aeronautics Administrator Debbie Alke, a guided tour of the State Capitol, and lunch.
General entry requirements:
1. Contest is open to all students in Montana, ages 6-18.
2. Size of poster not to exceed 11” x 14”.
3. Poster may be: technical drawing, color, or black and white.
4. Print name, age, grade, mailing address, home phone number, school, and teacher’s name on the back of the entry. All artwork will be returned.
5. Entries must be received no later than May 15.

Winners will be contacted directly and an article announcing the winners will be published in the Montana Aeronautics Division’s monthly newsletter, Montana and the Sky.
