RECALL: Inside an outsider's view

Recently an old friend was in town for a visit. She was born here — her greater family has been here for generations, though she has lived in Portland for many years now. She has been gone since high school but visits family here often.
She and her partner had gone to the library one afternoon to do some computer work using the free Wi-Fi. Neither of them had been there before and commented on how amazing it is. We spoke of some of the many improvements that have happened in Coeur d’Alene in the past several years — the Kroc Center, Riverstone, the educational corridor and midtown. Her partner asked innocently, “Where is this community getting the funding for these projects?”
The answer is easy — a competent and forward thinking mayor, a visionary council and the LCDC.
