EPHRATA - The Vikings came to town looking to steal a couple of CWAC road wins Thursday. However, Selah only managed a split with the Tigers as the Ephrata boys won 4-1, but the girls lost 3-2.

Boys

The Tigers No. 1 and No. 2 singles took control of their matches to put Ephrata up 2-0 as Hunter Sears beat Jordan Shaffer 6-1, 6-1, and Michael Bosner turned back Josh Shepard 7-6(7-3), 6-2.

Selah bounced back with its only win in the boys competition as the Vikings No. 1 doubles Ethan Willard and Eric Gutuerrez defeated Jordan Brezezny and Matt Jones in three sets 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

Ephrata got back on the winning track taking the last two doubles matches as Calvin Callahan and Maurico Contreras beat Othon Hamill and Lucas Mahugh  6-2, 6-0, and Stenn Monson and Conner Maddalozzo were victorious over Jacob Benson and Jacob Beam 5-7, 6-1, (10-6 Super tie-breaker).

"Hunter continues to control points with his consistent ground strokes," coach Missy Beierman said. "Calvin and Mauricio had a great match together. Their ground strokes led to many easy set ups for each other at the net, and our third doubles played a super tie-breaker for the third set due to rain."

Girls

The Lady Tigers looked as though they would follow suit with a win over the Vikings as the No. 1 and No. 2 single won their matches with ease.

Bianca Schley beat Ashley Bond in two sets 6-0, 6-2, and Naomi Kooistra turned back Dalainee Viernes 6-2, 6-2.

But Selah took all three doubles games to come away with the win.

Kaiti Dell and Megan Schenk beat Tiaana Schmitz and Tessa Ratigan in two sets,  6-1, 6-3, and Whitney Bertelsen and Brianna Butler had little trouble with Kim Beck and Aubrey Denley, beating the two 6-0, 6-1.

"It was great to see Bianca redeem herself against Ashley Bond,' Beierman said. "Bond beat Bianca in her first match of the season in three sets. But Bianca is gaining confidence in her play at the right time of the season."

OTHELLO- Ephrata hit the pavement for a non-league match against the Huskies Friday and came away with a split. The girls turned back the home team 4-1, but the boys dropped their match to Othello 3-2.

Girls

As as the case against Selah the day before, the Tigers won their first two singles matches. Schley, Ephrata's No. 1 singles defeated Amelia Roylance 6-1, 6-1, and Denley, the No. 2 singles got by Keesten Anderson 6-4, 6-3.

The lone win for the Huskies came at the No. 1 doubles as the Tigers Schmitz and Kooistra dropped their match to Yanitta and Jocely Cantu 2-6, 1-6.

But Ephrata took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to win going away.

Beck and Ratigan turned back Bethany Vargas and Katrina Montemayor 6-3, 6-2, and Pheasant and Demi Brekhus beat Zarah Gaera and Araceli Flores in two sets 6-1, 6-2.

Boys

The boys came close to pulling out a win over the Huskies, but came up a game short as they dropped their matches by a score of 3-2.

Ephrata took the first two singles matches as the Tigers Hunter Sears knocked off Michael Carlton 6-0, 6-2, and Matt Jones shutout Marty Garza 6-0, 6-0.

But the boys lost all three of the doubles match ups.  Jordan Brzezny and Mauricio Contreras were beat by  Alec Montemayor and Ben Taff in two sets, 6-0, 6-3.

Conner Maddalozzo and Stenn Monson, the Tigers No. 2 doubles lost  6-4, 6-1 to Austin Roylance and Gabe Harris.

Carl Strickler and Ryan Harrington were blanked by Andrew Logan and Juan Gutierrez 6-0, 6-0.

Ephrata is back in action today when the team travels to Ellensburg to face the Bulldogs.
