WARDEN - Two Othello women were reportedly extracted from their vehicles following a head-on collision on state Route 17, about 13 miles south of Moses Lake.

Venessa A. Rocha, 28, and Brittney N. Rubio, 24, were still in serious condition as of Monday evening and both were arrested on charges related to driving while impaired, according to Washington State Patrol Lt. Scott Martin.

The Washington State Patrol determined drug or alcohol use was a factor in the crash.

Rocha was driving a 1995 Toyota pickup north on SR 17 Sunday at about 5:30 a.m. when the vehicle crossed the center line to the southbound shoulder and then into the southbound lane, according to the state patrol.

The pickup collided head-on with a 1994 Jeep Cherokee being driven south by Rubio who was reportedly injured and transported by aid to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

Rocha reportedly suffered extensive injuries and was airlifted to Kadlec Hospital in Richland before being transferred to a Spokane hospital, according to Martin.
