SWIMMING
The Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team sent 67 swimmers to the Triple Pentathlon in Spokane on April 20-22. The Triple Pentathlon is a three-day event where swimmers compete in one event of each of the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) and one race of individual medley. Swimmers are awarded places based on the cumulative time of all five events.
CAST placed eight swimmers in the top six Friday evening. Nicole Rozier (14), Ethan Cordes (14) and Bryce Kananowicz (16) placed first for their respective age groups and gender. Also placing were Tiffany Portue (15, 2nd), Hannah Gonzalez (14, 3rd), Kyle Jones (14, 3rd), Jessica Penney (15, 5th) and Tyler Maryon (17, 6th).
On Saturday, 17 CAST swimmers medalled. Placing first in their respective age groups were Cole Curtis (11), Nicole Rozier (14), Ethan Cordes (14) and Bryce Kananowicz (16). In second place overall were Rosemarie Loftus (7), Hanna Gonzalez (14), Kyle Jones (14), Tiffany Portue (15) and Joseph Loftus (16). In third were Sarah Gonzalez (7), Jack Bukowski (10) and Micah Hudlet (12). Fourth places were awarded to Jonathan Archer (11) and Jessica Penney (15). In sixth were Julia Pierce (8), Isaiah Hudlet (7) and Hailey Pierce (10).
Sunday was the marathon day. Each swimmer still competed in five events, but they were the longest distances for their strokes in the sport of competitive swimming. Placing first overall were Nicole Rozier (14), Tiffany Portue (15) and Bryce Kananowicz (16). In second was Cole Curtis (11). Third places were awarded to Julia Pierce (8) and Jonathan Archer (11). In fourth were Hailey Pierce (10), Hannah Gonzalez (14) and Matt Chastain (13). Earning fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively, were Devin Selander (13) and Marcus Rozier (11).
WRESTLING
The Lakeland Wrestling Club finished second out of 58 teams at the Games of Rome tournament April 21 at the Evergreen County Fairgrounds in Monroe, Wash.
USA Everett Wrestling Club captured first place. The tournament consisted of all three styles - folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman.
Lakeland had two wrestlers win all three styles. Sam Edelblute placed first in all three styles in the Novice 60 pounds division. He was 12-0 on the day. Larry Johnson also placed first in all three styles in the schoolboy 77-pound division. Larry was 9-0 on the day. William Edelblute placed first in folkstyle and 2nd in freestyle and Greco in the Novice 70-pound division. William was 7-2 on the day.
Tristan Hathaway in the Novice 120-pound division placed second in all three styles. Tristan was 6-3. Tavis Woempner placed third in folkstyle and fourth in freestyle and Greco in the Novice 70-pound bracket. He was 2-6 on the day.
Alex Edelblute placed third in folkstyle in the intermediate 60-pound division. He was 5-6 on the weekend. Jason Burchell placed fourth in folkstyle, and second in freestyle and Greco in the Novice 105-pound class and was 3-5 on the day. Mitchell Peterson wrestled in the Cadet 120-pound division and placed third in Greco and was 4-6. Austin Hoobler did not place in the Cadet 120-pound divison and was 1-6 on the day.

Idaho Thunder under-15 boys: The Thunder opened its season with a 5-2 victory over VYSA last Saturday in Lewiston. Alex Mills scored four goals, Tristan Gisclair one in the win.
Coeur d'Alene Sting U18 girls: The Sting beat 3 Rivers on Saturday. Ashley Ward scored for the Sting
On Sunday the Sting beat the Missoula Strikers 5-2 in an exhibition game. Emilee Cordon and Taylor Hoffman scored for the Sting, and Marie Burnes saved a penalty kick in the second half.
Sting U11 girls Sounders: The Sounders beat Three Rivers SC 00 Miller 1-0 on Saturday as Shreyer Jones assisted on Katie Venera's goal. Later that day, the Sting beat the Spokane Shadow Sky McDirmid 3-2. Sarah Swider had a corner kick to Meike McCaw for the first goal. Chloe Teets and Hannah Hudson each scored, and Lexi Medina had an assist.
Sting U10 boys (Tottenham): The Sting beat the Lakeland Nighthawks (Mooney) 3-1 on Saturday. Jackson Henkle scored two goals, one assisted by Christopher Swider. Kyler Sorensen scored once, and Jared Hoffman and Michael Simpson had two saves.
Also that day, the Sting beat the Idaho Thunder 3-1. Taylor Tenbrink, Jackson Henkle and Diego McClure each scored once, and Jared Hoffman had four saves.
On April 14, the Sting beat Moscow (Rezamand) 9-1. Jackson Henkle scored a hat trick, Christopher Swider added two goals, and Diego McClure, Bennett Forsberg, Kyler Sorensen and Mark McClure each scored once. Jared Hoffman and Taylor Tenbrink had one assist each.
Also that day, the Sting beat Moscow (Brooks) 5-0. Diego McClure and Christopher Swider each scored two goals, Jackson Henkle one.
On April 7, the Sting beat VYSA-Simone from Lewiston 9-0. Jackson Henkle scored four goals, Christopher Swider had a hat trick, and Diego McClure and Jared Hoffman scored once each.
Also that day, the Sting beat the VYSA-Stug from Lewiston 11-0. Diego McClure scored four goals, Kyler Sorensen and Jared Hoffman scored twice each, and Bennett Forsberg, Marc McClure and Christopher Swider each scored once.
Thunder U13 girls (Foster): The Thunder beat ASE 98 Fury 4-0 last Saturday at Post Falls High School. Victoria Cafferty had her first goal of the season, unassisted. Cierra Foster scored on a cross from Cheyenne Kleiner, Hannah Johnson also scored off of a great cross from Taylor Hammond. The last goal was scored off of a long shot by Cheyenne Kleiner. Goalie Emily Parson notched her second shutout of the season.
Sting Barcelona U11 boys: The Sting lost 4-3 to the Cobra Fire on Saturday. Dakota Fisbeck, Joey Fraser and Keaton Murphree each scored once for the Sting.
Also that day, the Sting beat Spokane Valley FC Crump 10-3. Cadin Perry, Keaton Murphree and Trevor Rau each scored twice, and Cameron Johnson, Dakota Fisbeck, and Josh Schriger all scored once.
Lakeland Nighthawks U13 boys (McDevitt): The Nighthawks beat VYSA 7-1 last Saturday in Lewiston. Tommy Krivanek scored a hat trick, Brendan Colee scored twice, and Jerrich Banks-Dunn and Cody Callahan each scored once. Dade McDevitt had four assists, and Drew Plunkett and David Moruzzi had one each.
On Sunday, the Nighthawks beat the Breakers-Davey (the other undefeated team in their division) 2-0 at the South Complex in Spokane. Dade McDevitt scored both goals, one on a header. Cody Callahan had two assists, one on a corner kick, one on a free kick. Cooper Haney notched the shutout in goal for the Nighthawks (5-0-0).
Nighthawks U10 girls (Higbee): The Nighthawks beat Moscow (Vierling) 11-1 in Northwest League play Saturday at Wicks Field in Moscow. Zoe Potter scored five goals for the Nighthawks, Kaylie Higbee three, and Darby McDevitt, Makenna Smith and Mercedes Thompson one each. Makenna Smith, Zoe Potter and Darby McDevitt each had one assist for the Nighthawks (2-0-0).
Sting U15 girls (Hogan): The Sting tied the SCC Elite G96 White 1-1 in Puget Sound Premier League play. Megan Lowery scored for the Sting, assisted by Madeline Roberts. Tiegan Horton had four saves for the Sting.
The Sting beat the RV Slammers G96 Orange 2-0. Alissa Jolliff scored both goals, one off a corner kick by Megan Lowery. Tiegan Horton had five saves in the shutout.
The Sting beat MVP Marauders 96 Navy 1-0. Alissa Jolliff scored the lone goal for the Sting, Tiegan Horton had five saves, Charley Smith two.
Sting U12 girls (Engebretsen): The Sting went 2-1 in their past three games. The Sting beat SVFC G99 Valdez 2-1 on Saturday. Sting goals were scored by Anna Hilbert and Abbigail Shrontz. The previous weekend, the Sting shut out SVFC G00 Valdez 1-0. Abigail Ellison scored the goal and Haley Gordon was credited with the assist. The Sting lost to SVFC G99 Valdez 1-0 later that day.
Sting U14 girls (Bagan): The Sting went 1-1 last weekend. The Sting lost to Moscow United 1-0, and beat the Breakers White Hagel 4-1. Sting goals were scored by Allison Branscome, Monique Queen (2) and Erin Hague (penalty kick). Kia Anderson and Tanner Bowen teamed in goal for the shutout against Moscow United.
Thunder U9 boys: The Thunder opened its season April 14 with a pair of wins over U10 teams.
The Thunder beat NWL-Himmelberger 6-2 and NMA-Wilson 4-1. Scoring in the first game for the Thunder was Andrew Ferreira (2 goals), Aidan O'Halloran (2 goals), Kyle Sater (1 goal) and Braden Ferreira (1 goal). Second-game scores came from Carson Jacobsen, Andrew Ferreira and Braden Ferreira (2 goals).
TRACK AND FIELD
Hershey's Track Meet: Registration is under way at the Rathdrum Parks and Recreation department for the Hershey's Track Meet.
The event is May 18 at the Lakeland High School track, and is free for boys and girls age 9-14.
