RONAN — Ronan Chief and Maiden golfers took to Mission Mountain Golf Course on Thursday, April 19 and reaped the benefits of playing on it.

The Chiefs finished third of 11 teams, shooting a 339 while the Maidens shot a 500, finishing fifth of five teams. Shyann Brum nearly made noise in the top 15 for the Maidens, finishing just outside after shooting a 108.

RONAN — Ronan Chief and Maiden golfers took to Mission Mountain Golf Course on Thursday, April 19 and reaped the benefits of playing on it.

The Chiefs finished third of 11 teams, shooting a 339 while the Maidens shot a 500, finishing fifth of five teams. Shyann Brum nearly made noise in the top 15 for the Maidens, finishing just outside after shooting a 108.

“I saw some steadier play from her,” head coach Rupe Paulson said.

Alex Killian, who tied for fifth place after carding a 79, just four strokes behind third place, led the Chiefs.

“I was very tickled for him,” Paulson said. “He’s been shooting toward that number for quite a while.”

Riley Dennis wasn’t too far off the pace after recording an 83 at his home course.

“I was happy for them,” Paulson said. “The boys finally shot as a team and played very well, but I know they can still play better.”

Two days later in Thompson Falls, the Chiefs finished fifth of the five teams there, but were only seven strokes behind Eureka after scoring 411. The team was comprised of three first-timers, Brandon Dumont, Chase Rhine and Austin Hakes, and two varsity players.

“I thought they did OK,” Paulson said. “At T-Falls, there are a lot of big trees.”

Despite the finish, Paulson is excited about the week ahead when his team takes on Stillwater Christian on Friday before playing nine holes in Deer Lodge on Saturday.

“I’m looking for improvement,” Paulson said. “They’re coming along well.”
