'Charlie Wilson's War' ends series

COEUR d'ALENE - "Charlie Wilson's War," based on a true story, completes the current "Moving Book" film series at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, Thursday, May 3, at 7 p.m.

Sponsored by the Library Foundation, the film series has focused on movies based on books shown on the big screen in the library's Community Room, 702 E. Front Ave.

A $5 donation is suggested with proceeds going to enhance the library's DVD collection. Free popcorn is provided.

The May selection is based on "Charlie Wilson's War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History" by George Crile. It tells the story of U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson (D-Texas) and his work with a CIA operative to supply arms to the fighters resisting the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Directed by Mike Nichols, the film stars Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was released in 2007 and has a running time 100 minutes. The film is rated R.

Book 'Abahrazha' released in audio

COEUR d'ALENE - The first book in Coeur d'Alene author Michael Anthony Cariola's trilogy "The Chronicles of Abahrazha" was released on audio book format.

Books in Motion, a publishing house for audio books, released the "The Singingwood."

The novel will be followed by "Arcalian Apocalypse" and "Children of Prophecy," scheduled for release later this year.

The three novels will be read by award-winning narrator Cameron Beierle.

The Press featured "The Singingwood" when it was first released.

Beginning the series, human traders violate a sacred forest belonging to the Tu-Grik-Ng and the alien foliage is brought back to Earth, with devastating results to both worlds.

Introducing the plants unchecked into Earth's environment proves ecologically disastrous. On the remote planet Abahrazha, the Tu-Grik-Ng lament the loss of their sacred forest, the Singingwood.
