A diverse full menu and bar will be offered at Moose Creek Neighborhood Pub & Grill when it opens this week in Hayden. Aiming toward an Applebee's- type atmosphere, the 90-seat restaurant is in the former Caio Mambo 4,500- square-foot space in Hayden Creek Plaza at 8166 Government Way.

Offering lunch and dinner, the menu includes steaks, gourmet burgers and sandwiches, salads and pizzas. Seating is in booths and at tables and a buddy bar. Kids are welcome, and TVs are on. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Born and raised in Coeur d'Alene, Kim Gittel owns Moose Creek with his cousin, Rick. Both have extensive experience in the grocery/restaurant/bar business. Moose Creek has about 25 employees.

Meltz Grilled Cheese at Kathleen/Ramsey

The "Snappy Stan" is one fascinating example of items on the menu of Meltz Extreme Grilled Cheese as the eatery opens soon at 1735 W. Kathleen Ave. in the northwest corner of the Ramsey Road intersection. The Snappy Stan comprises fontina and blue cheeses with smokey beef brisket, carmelized onions and huckleberry barbecue.

Other items include grilled cheese sandwiches called Kid Comfort, The Frico, Sicilian Trio, Latino Snackster and American Ooze. Options include tomato soup, gluten-free bread and surprise desserts.

Owners are Joe McCarthy, with 20 years in the restaurant business including at Brix Restaurant and a traveling chef with the Indy Racing League series and Cd'A native Matt Yetter with help from Frank Cruzaedo. Open for lunch daily, Meltz will seat about 20 customers inside and offer take-out. With about 12 employees, a future website will be www.meltzextreme.com.

Mountain View Cyclery moves

Kirby vacuums to Gov't Way

With 40 years in the business, Loren Walz is opening Kirby Sales & Service at 6055 Government Way. The business had been in a building that burned last year farther south on the same street.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 772-9198.

Hang on for these tidbits

• May 7 is the projected opening date for Fu-Ki Japanese Steak House in Post Falls. Watch this space for details next week.

• Hmmm... Businesses that probably would do well here would include a major grocery market on Ramsey Road, a smaller one on 15th Street and a take-out, eat-in fast-food fish place (like Ivar's) in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

• Aaargh! People (including cartoonists) mistakenly are adding S's to the "ward" words such as toward and backward.

• To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.
