Katherin Pope and Sydnie Malloy were good fits for Distinguished Young Woman scholarship programs on Saturday night.
Pope was the overall winner for Post Falls and Malloy for Timberlake and both won the Fitness category during the competitions.
Pope and Malloy will represent their communities at the state DYW program in Idaho Falls in September.
Pope won $1,000 for being Post Falls overall winner out of 21 participants, $350 for the Be Your Best Self category and $250 for Fitness. For her Talent category, she performed a gymnastics dance routine to the song "Welcome Home" by Radical Face.
"She did exceptionally well in every category," said Cynthia Keck, Post Falls DYW coordinator. "Her dance routine was beautiful and she's a top scholar."
The categories and percentage of the total score include: Interview and Talent, 25 each; Scholastic, 20; and Fitness and Self-Expression, 15 each.
All participants are juniors.
Pope, who is also involved with Key Club, Link, Troubadors choir and Idaho Drug Free Youth, couldn't be reached for comment on Sunday.
Malloy won $500 for being Timberlake's DYW out of 14 participants and $100 for the Fitness award.
"I honestly didn't think that I'd win it," Malloy said. "There were quite a few girls who seemed like they had a better chance of winning."
Malloy sang "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys for her talent.
But Malloy, who competes in volleyball, softball and basketball and plans to major in anesthesiology, believed her Fitness performance separated her from the field.
"I had a lot of energy because of nerves," she said.
Malloy said she originally wasn't going to participate in DYW, but was talked into it by friends.
"I'm really happy that they did because it ended up being a lot of fun and the scholarship money was good," she said.
Other Timberlake winners included: Mercedes McComb, First Alternate, $300, Scholastic, $100; Megan Bowers, Interview, $100; Darian Brillon, Talent, $100; Stephanie Simon, Self-Expression, $100; and Lolisa Kuewa, Spirit of DYW, $100.
Other Post Falls winners included: Karen Hunt, First Alternate, $750, Scholastic, $500, Talent $250; Sierra Tancoast, Second Alternate, $500, Interview, $500; Brooke Houseman, Scholastic First Finalist, $350; Lily Taylor, Spirit of DYW, $350; and Jami Main, Self-Expression, $250.
