EPHRATA - A fun time was had by all at the Ephrata Raceway Park (ERP) Saturday night.

Fans were treated to the return of the Northwest Early Stocks, and also had an opportunity to help raise money for a worthy cause.

"The Columbia Basin Herald Night at the Races and Relay for Life event helped to make for a busy and fast racing action at the track," Rita Witte, co-owner of ERP, said. "There couldn't have been better weather or better racing. Relay for Life did extremely well along with the Columbia Basin Herald Relay for Life "King of the Hill" race between employees Bob Richardson(declared winner)and Jessica Huntley, and culminating with the drawing for their Relay for Life 50/50 raffle."

The 50/50 raffle brought in $325, half of which went to Relay for Life. Another $261.50 was raised from the Race for the Cure T-shirt and mustache sales for a total of $424.10 for the charitable event. Karen and Mike Moore from Ephrata won the free cruise for two adults to the St. Joe River in Idaho, and Dale Roth from Moses Lake was the recipient of a quarter-page display ad in the Columbia Basin Herald.

The winner of the mustache contest were Mike Huntley (Most Marvelous), who took home a gift certificate from Avila's Auto Detailing, Jonny Hart (Best of the Beardiest) and Coy Estes (Facial Hair Freestyler).

"The Northwest Early Stocks put on a great show," Witte said. "Fast time was Will Krassett. Justin Rabideaux was winner of the main event.

The Ephrata Pioneer Muffler II Pure Stocks had the No. 24 car of Christopher Weber from Moses Lake running the lead lap, but was overtaken by Derrick Kapalo who insisted on keeping the position but not without Weber right behind him for a close second."

The Schaeffer Oil Mini Stocks had saw plenty of action as well, Witte said, as the red flag came out in the second lap when Ty Mitchell, Mykkal Mulalley and Kelly Olsick tangled in turn two sending all three back to the pits with only Ty Mitchell returning to race.

Racing action resumed with Jeff Hector taking the main event win. In the Pepsi Street Stocks, Skyler Leseman battled with Tyler Redin and Shad Darwood to take and keep the lead in the eighth lap of the 20 lap main event win. Leseman also had fast time for the Pepsi Street Stocks.

The Jerry's Auto Supply 360 Sprints made up their race from the rain out on June 30th with fast time going to the No. 7 car of Joe Smith. Smith worked his way up from the back in the main event to catch Don Kudrna on the 13th lap to take over the lead to win the 20 lap race. Kudrna finished second and Tom Beierman was third.
