Float or sink on Lake Cd'A
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 6 months AGO
As part of the Aug. 18 and 19 annual Wooden Boat Show, the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce is also sponsoring The Lake Coeur d'Alene Cardboard Regatta. This fun event is a chance for teams of three to show off their boat design and construction skills and prove their boat's seaworthiness in a race.
Families and friends can join up to participate in this contest; local businesses are encouraged to be represented by staff members and to create friendly challenges with other businesses. There are no restrictions placed on decorative materials as long as they do not aid in the flotation or propulsion of the boat.
The races will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the smaller city beach at Independence Point.
There will be three races: Youth (ages 12-15), adults (16-60) and corporate/business. Pre-registration is required as entries are limited.
Each team is given a pile of cardboard, scissors, and two rolls of duct tape for building their boat; these are the only supplies allowed in the boat's construction. Teams will have one hour to build their boat, and then compete for one of three awards: Race Winner, Judges' Favorite, and Titanic Award (best sinking boat.) Each team of three will have a designated captain to encourage from shore and two to man the boat and paddle.
Complete rules, regulations, and registration information is available at the chamber's website: cdachamber.com/events; or contact Diane Higdem at (208) 292-1635, diane@cdachamber.com.
