Golf tryouts coming up soon

The Columbia Falls High School boys and girls golf teams will start the 2012 season on Thursday, Aug. 9, at 3:30 p.m.

Try-outs and practice will be held on the driving range at Meadow Lake Resort.

Students wishing to participate must have proof of a recent physical examination and all other appropriate paper work in order to practice.

The opening tournament will take place Wednesday, Aug. 15, in Whitefish. For more informtatin, contact coach Gene Marcille at 892-3164.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
