Coeur d'Alene to start football practice Monday
Coeur d'Alene High football practice starts Monday at noon for 10th through 12th graders.
Freshman football starts Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. All players need to have their school paperwork and updated physical turned into the school before they can practice.
The first practice will be with helmets only.
Lake City volleyball to hold parents meeting
The Lake City High volleyball team will hold a pre-tryout parents meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake City High gym.
Tryouts will be Aug. 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
Athletes are required to be at both sessions. All incoming players new to the program, freshmen and juniors are required to have physicals before tryouts.
Veltung named to watch list for Paul Hornung Award
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Idaho senior wide receiver Justin Veltung was among 49 football players named to the 2012 Watch List for the Paul Hornung Award, given to the most versatile player in major college football.
He was also on the watch list as a junior and has scored a touchdown in four different ways during his Vandal career - rushing, receiving, punt and kick return - and is Idaho's active career leader in all-purpose yardage at 2,636 in his career.
Veltung is one of three Western Athletic Conference players named to the Watch List. He is joined by San Jose State's Chandler Jones and Utah State's Kerwynn Williams. The full Watch List is available online at www.PaulHornungAward.com.
