Grove finishes T-2,
named alternate to nationals
RENTON, Wash. -
Former Coeur d'Alene High and Idaho standout Russell Grove of Avondale Golf Club finished tied for second in the National Car Rental Assistant Championship on Tuesday at Fairwood Golf and Country Club, shooting a two-round score of 144.
Golfers were competing for three bids to the national championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Nov. 1-4.
Grove lost on the fourth playoff hole and is the first alternate to the tournament.
Brad Faller won the tournament with a 139, and Mike Roters and Tim Feenstra also qualified.
Bayley finishes tied for 11th at tourney
PORT LUDLOW, Wash. - Lakeland High's Derek Bayley shot a 146 over two days at the Pacific Northwest Junior Boys Amateur Championship and is tied for 11th after the first two rounds of stroke play.
Brett Manke of Lakewood, Wash., shot a 142 to take the lead..
To be eligible, contestants must not have reached their 18th birthday by the final day of competition. The top 32 will continue match play today.

SPOKANE - Home games against West Virginia (Nov. 12), 2013-14 West Coast Conference newcomer University of the Pacific (Dec. 2), Illinois (Dec.8) and Baylor (Dec. 28) highlight the Gonzaga men's basketball nonconference schedule, announced on Tuesday.
Gonzaga is already scheduled to play three games in the Old Spice Classic (Nov. 22-25), games at Washington State (Dec. 5), Oklahoma State (Dec. 31) and Butler (Jan. 19), and the 10th annual Battle in Seattle against Kansas State on Dec. 15.
Gonzaga opens against Clemson University in the Old Spice Classic and are in the same half of the bracket as the University of Oklahoma and UTEP as they seek to duplicate its 2008 Old Spice Classic title.
