Bayley falls in match play

PORT LUDLOW, Wash. — Lakeland junior Derek Bayley lost in the round of 32 in match play of the Pacific Northwest Junior Boys Amateur Championship on Wednesday at Port Ludlow Golf Club.

Bayley was beaten 2 and 1 by Ross Kukula of Ocean Park, Wash.

Both Bayley and Kukula will compete on the Washington state Hogan Cup team starting Aug. 11 at Riverside Golf and Country Club.

NW Wildfire to

hold tryouts

POST FALLS — The Northwest Wildfire is holding tryouts for 10-and under, 14-U and 16-U softball teams at Post Falls High on Sunday at 9 a.m.

They will hold another session on Aug. 19.

GU-Butler to be

featured on GameDay

BRISTOL, Conn. —

The Gonzaga men’s basketball team will be a part of ESPN’s College GameDay this season for the third time since 2005 — but it will be the first time on the road.

Gonzaga’s game with Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Jan. 19 will be the showcase event in the battle of the Bulldogs. Game time is 6 p.m.

Gonzaga has hosted College GameDay twice, the first on Feb. 11, 2005, when the Zags topped Stanford 80-76 at the McCarthey Athletic Center. GameDay returned to Spokane and the Gonzaga campus on Feb. 7, 2009, with the morning portion broadcasting from the McCarthey Athletic Center while the evening show and game against Memphis was played at the Spokane Arena, with Memphis winning 68-50.

Indians to hold fundraiser

for Rypien Foundation

SPOKANE — The first Ride the Bases motorcycle ride presented by U.S. Linen and Uniform is scheduled for Sunday, starting at the Lone Wolf Harley-Davidson dealership and finishing at Avista Stadium with proceeds benefiting the Rypien Foundation.

The Rypien Foundation, created by former Washington State quarterback and Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien, is dedicated to providing hope for local families battling childhood cancer.

Cost is $30 and includes a commemorative t-shirt, donation to the Rypien Foundation, a ticket to Sunday’s game against Everett, a Harley-Davidson poker chip, an all-you-can eat buffet and live concert before the game.
