ST. IGNATIUS - Desiree Peone was involved in a traffic stop by Tribal Police on Dec. 28, 2011. According to court records, while attempting to retrieve documents the defendant displayed a marijuana pipe and a baggie of pills to Officer Haynes.

According to court documents, the defendant then advised Officer Haynes that there were several empty bags of methamphetamine in her car. Officer Haynes then noticed a sawed-off shotgun next to the driver. Officer Haynes then took control of the weapon and placed handcuffs on the defendant.

According to court documents, Officer Haynes searched the defendant. Officer Haynes then located a pipe with what according to court documents looked like methamphetamine residue inside of it. According to court documents, Officer Haynes believed the defendant’s behavior indicated methamphetamine use.

As the defendant was walking to the the rear of the vehicle a tin fell from her pant leg. According to court documents the defendant stated that the tin contained methamphetamine. The defendant signed a consent form to search her vehicle and according to court documents Officer Haynes located a purple scale with what appeared to be methamphetamine residue on it, another small baggie with what appeared to be methamphetamine in it, another small glass and several pills, according to court documents.

The defendant is charged with the offense of criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony, with a maximum penalty of imprisonment in the state prison for five years and fined $50,000. At the omnibus hearing on Aug. 2 the defendant changed her plea to guilty of the amended offense of criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony. Sentencing is set for Thursday, Sept. 6, at 9 a.m.
