COEUR d'ALENE - Seven people suspected of being involved in burglaries that have plagued Coeur d'Alene this summer were arrested over the past few weeks.

Coeur d'Alene police Capt. Ron Clark said the arrests "made a significant impact" in stopping the wave of home and auto burglaries throughout the city. He said police efforts to establish neighborhood watch programs and alert the public to the crimes paid off.

Police said the suspects were responsible for multiple thefts and burglaries "which resulted in the recent crime increase in Coeur d'Alene."

Those arrested allegedly were operating independently, not as a group. They included:

* Anthony Young, 24, Coeur d'Alene, for possession of a stolen vehicle. Bond is $55,000 on four charges.

* Michael G. Wilkins, 27, Roseburg, Ore., for grand theft of checks from mail boxes in Coeur d'Alene. Bond is $75,000 on nine charges after which he faces extradition to Oregon.

* Brandon J. Laursen, 27, Coeur d'Alene, for two counts of auto burglary from vehicles parked in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

He bonded out on his own recognizance.

* Jennifer R. Garden, 20, Coeur d'Alene, for grand theft of a credit card that was used at area stores. The credit card was originally stolen from a vehicle in the Sanders Beach area. Bond is $25,000 on five charges.

* A male, 17, Coeur d'Alene, for attempted burglary of Pilgrim's Market. Police are still seeking the identity of another suspect in this crime.

* Roland C. Partyka, 35, and Mitchell E. Nafe, 25, both of Coeur d'Alene, arrested for committing grand theft of vehicle parts and scrap parts. Bond is $60,000 on two charges.
