Summer is staying great out here in the Potholes Recreation Area & MarDon Resort. With the sunny days and low water now is the perfect time to make a trip out to Potholes Reservoir. The water level is currently at 1,033.6 feet putting the lake about 13 feet below full pool, exposing many sand beach dunes and channels for watersports!
The fishing is improving across the reservoir as the water level is consistently dropping. Bass, Walleye and Trout have been consistent lately with the Trout fishing being the diamond in the rough this year, with excellent Rainbow fishing across the reservoir but especially out in front of the State Park area and Medicare Beach. Find 20-30 feet of water and troll a Rapala Shad Rap or Luhr-Jensen Hot Lips Crankbait and hold on! Topwater lures are consistent action for Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass.
Spiny ray fishing off the MarDon Resort dock is gaining speed with limits in abundance this past week! Anglers are catching abundant Perch, Bluegill and a few legal 9-inch Crappie daily using small jigs tipped with nightcrawlers. Catfishing is picking up at nighttime and Bass and Rainbows are also being caught if targeted. The best way to target the monster Catfish around the MarDon docks is to run a nightcrawler ball on the bottom. The fishing is good and only getting better at the summer goes on! For the public, not staying at the resort, it is $7 for a dock fishing pass and $4 for Seniors and Children.
Our annual Beach Party Poker Run! Come on out on August 25 to run around the lake playing games and gathering poker cards to win up to $1,000 cash! Included is a beach BBQ and live music at night! The event runs from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. with the Beach Party from 3 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. To register for the event or more info, please contact the resort at (509) 346-2651, visit www.Mardonresort.com, or join us on our Facebook page!

Fresh News from MarDon
The fishing in the Potholes Recreation Area this October has been just as good as we thought it would be. We experienced some rapidly cooling weather which rapidly cooled the water temperatures and really turns on the fall bite. The walleye fishers are producing limits almost daily.

As Potholes Reservoir cools with incoming fall weather the fishing for all species will only get better. The bass guys are having a ball with largemouth bass at the face of the dunes. Smallmouth bass are most catchable at the rock piles in the main lake between Goose Island and O'Sullivan Dam. Potholes are now at the low water status typical for this time of year. Cover is harder for fish to locate for sanctuary. (Now is when the underwater habitat restoration project is the most valuable, cwfac.org).

It's hard to believe but the already great fishing on Potholes Reservoir will just be getting better. The perch fishing at the State Park and off the MarDon Dock has been great.
