KATS swim coach Brandon Rannebarger said Jamie Bouda, Logan Streit and Madison Walters all had time-dropping performances at the Age-Group Western Zones swimming championships in Grand Junction, Colo., Aug. 7-11.

Walters, 17, made the finals in the 1,500 freestyle, placing 12th with a time of 21 minutes and 45.20 seconds.

She also swam the 200 breaststroke (3:23.88), 50 freestyle (32.79), 200 freestyle (2:34.83), 100 freestyle (1:10.85) and 200 individual medley (2:59.63).

Walters was competing in the 17-18 age bracket.

“Looks like she dropped about a half second in all her events,” Rannebarger said. “She’s the hardest worker we’ve probably had.”

Streit, 18, competed in the 50 freestyle (26.40), 100 butterfly (1:10.73), 100 breaststroke (1:21.58), 100 freestyle (58.80) and 200 individual medley (2:34.68.)

“He dropped in all of his events,” Rannebarger said of Streit’s times.

“He is one of those multiple sport, talented athletes.”

Bouda, 12, swam the 100 backstroke (1:17.59), 50 freestyle (29.87), 50 butterfly (32.23), 100 butterfly (1:14.60), 50 backstroke (34.63) and 100 freestyle (1:05.57).

“He had a great zone meet,” Rannebarger said.

“In the 100 fly, he dropped 1.35 seconds. In the 100 free, he dropped 2.46 seconds.

“He’s been working hard all-year long,” Rannebarger continued.

“At zones, he had some adrenaline working and with the fast swimmers, he dropped some time.”

Bouda swam in the 11-12 age group.

This was the first Zone competition for the three KATS.

They competed with other swimmers from around the state on team Montana.
