POLSON — Montana’s congressional representative Denny Rehberg visited Polson last Wednesday morning to campaign for this November’s U.S. Senate race. The Republican candidate addressed a crowd of about 60 supporters gathered outside of The Cove Deli.
Echoing one of his central campaign themes, Rehberg spoke at length about the need to “liberate Main Street” and decrease “burdensome” taxes on small businesses. He also voiced an urgency to get the national debt under control.
“Their side believes you can spend your way out of the deficit,” Rehberg said of his opponent, Sen. Jon Tester, in his call for reduced government spending.
Rehberg then took time to field a number of questions from the crowd.
Susan Lake of Ronan said that she supports Rehberg for a variety of reasons.
“I’m really concerned about jobs. I have kids going into the job market now, and I want them to be able to find private sector jobs,” Lake said.
“He’s an honest conservative,” Lake said of Rehberg. “He didn’t vote for bailouts.”
President Obama’s Affordable Care Act was another item of importance to many in attendance.
“I want it repealed,” said Lake.
Polson resident Helen Raunig agreed.
“The debt is the worst. We have to do something about Obamacare,” she said.
Following his visit, Rehberg left for another rally in Philipsburg. The congressman expects to return to the Mission Valley between now and the election.
