Coach Peter Browne is upbeat about this year’s Wildcat soccer team.

“They have a great attitude,” he said recently. “We have some good younger kids coming up. It’s kind of refreshing.”

The boys team will look to shake off a bad couple of years. Last season, the squad won just one game.

“We’re putting the past behind us and working hard,” he said.

He said the goal is to continue to get better and better as the season goes on and be competitive in conference play.

“We have much better chemistry,” he said.

The team has 18 players and a core of juniors, including keeper Mason Gedlaman and forward Caleb Baumann.

The season will begin with a difficult road trip against Livingston Aug. 31 and then against Belgrade the next day. The girls team shares the same schedule.

Browne has been the head coach for the boys team at Columbia Falls High School since 2001. He was an assistant coach in 2000. Browne is assisted by Brian Crandell.
