MOSES LAKE - A candlelight vigil and fundraiser in memory of Delia Chavez, 19, of Moses Lake, who died recently in a traffic accident, will be held Wednesday from 9 to 11 p.m. at Lakeview Terrace Elementary School, 780 South Clover Dr.

The family is trying to raise enough money to pay the remaining funeral expenses, said Delia's sister-in-law Melissa Esparza. Delia died Aug. 9 in an automobile accident on state Route 17 near Moses Lake. She had lived in Moses Lake since she was in grade school, Esparza said.

"She loved to be around her family and friends," Esparza said. "She loved to go to church." She liked playing soccer and listening to music, and attended beauty school for a while before deciding on a different career path. But she still liked cutting hair and doing nails for friends and family.

Delia, a 2011 graduate of Moses Lake High School, was a student at Big Bend Community College and was working a summer job to help pay college costs. Her goal was to become a crime scene investigator, Esparza said.

Everybody who knew Delia remembers her smile and her warm personality, Esparza said.

Delia is survived by her parents and five brothers.
