KELLOGG - Brad McCumber ran for three touchdowns and caught another TD pass from quarterback Luke Feasline as the St. Maries Lumberjacks rollled past former Intermountain League rival Kellogg 54-7 in the nonleague opener for both schools on Friday at Teeters Field.

St. Maries, which dropped from the 3A IML to the 2A Central Idaho League this year, jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead on a pair of touchdown runs by Feasline and his 19-yard pass to Jordan Stapleton.

St. Maries will host Medical Lake next Friday.

The two teams will play another nonleague game on Sept. 21 at St. Maries.

Kellogg hosts Grangeville next Friday.

SILVERTON - Junior quarterback Gavin Rasmussen completed 7 of 10 passes for 143 yards and ran for 126 yards as the Miners beat the Warriors in the season and North Star League opener for both schools at Sather Field.

"I thought we played well for our first game of the year," Wallace coach Dave Rounds said. "We played really well."

Morgan Willms had a 9-yard touchdown run for Kootenai, which hosts Lakeside next Friday.

Wallace is at Cusick, Wash., next Friday.

Vikings take two to open season

COEUR d'ALENE - Kayla McGlathery had 23 kills and seven aces on the day as Coeur d'Alene beat Big Sky and Sentinel High of Missoula to open its season.

Against Big Sky, Miranda Miller had nine kills, Sydney Williams eight kills, Megan Ramseyer 22 assists, Amy Norris 23 digs and Morgan Leifer three blocks for Coeur d'Alene in a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 win over Big Sky.

"We just got off to a good start," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "It was a well-balanced attack from all of our players."

Williams had 14 kills as the Vikings beat Sentinel 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22.

"When Sentinel came back in that second game, it got my girls a little rattled," Pottenger said. "I thought we did a really good job of getting and staying composed after that game. That was the key to us winning."

Ashley Hammons had 19 assists, McGlathery and Strand four aces and Norris 16 digs for Coeur d'Alene (2-0), which travels to Lakeland on Tuesday.
