Vikings rally for wild victory over Skyview

NAMPA - Marques Mort's second touchdown of the game, a 9-yard run with 1:47 left, capped a wild back-and-forth game and gave the Coeur d'Alene Vikings a 40-36 victory over the 4A Skyview Hawks in the season opener for both teams Friday night at Hawks Stadium.
Mort's TD was set up by a blocked punt by the Vikings.
Addison Johnson caught two touchdown passes from Gunnar Amos for Coeur d'Alene. Amos, a junior making his first varsity start at quarterback, finished 21 for 37 for 295 yards.
Johnson caught two TD passes from Amos in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead. But Jaxon Pryor ran for a pair of second-quarter scores for Skyview, which took a 21-14 halftime lead.
Skyview took a 29-28 lead with 9:59 left. Reece Mahaffy connected with Jackson Carlson on a 40-yard TD pass three plays later, but the Hawks struck back two plays later to go up 36-34.
Coeur d’Alene, the two-time defending state 5A champion, has now won 22 straight games.
Coeur d’Alene plays host to West Linn (Ore.) on Friday.
