ANNIVERSARIES
Charles and Anthel Jean Bly Heinemeyer
65th Anniversary
Charles and Anthel Jean Bly Heinemeyer celebrated their 65th anniversary.
Chuck and Jean were married Aug. 22, 1947, in Lewiston. Chuck was born and raised in Stanton, N.D. Jean was born and raised in the Lewiston area.
Chuck and Jean met July 4, 1947. Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old. While in boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, the war ended.
After boot camp his company was sent to Seattle. For further orders, part of his company and him were sent to Guam to replace sailors that had enough points to get their discharge and go home.
Chuck stayed in Guam until he had enough points for discharge. The Billy Mitchell cruise ship took him to Treasure Island, Calif. He received his honorable discharge and was sent home. With no work available at home, he went to look for work and landed in Lewiston and went to work for Potlatch Forest Inc. After that, the union went on strike leaving Chuck without a job and no hope of finding work in that area.
Chuck and Jean decided to get married and look for work elsewhere. Jean left her job at the COD Laundry and headed north to look for work. They stopped in Coeur d'Alene and rented a cabin. Without no money things were pretty tough.
Chuck landed a temporary job working for Mueller's Building Supplies and Fuel. That job lasted until they went out of business in 1986. Chuck then went to work for John Montandon at Ace Hardware. This lasted 23 years. He then decided to retire. He missed all the people. Some customers were grandkids of some of his first customers.
Chuck and Jean bought their house in 1962 and raised two sons who received their education 12 years in the Coeur d'Alene School District and two years at North Idaho College. Chuck and Jean still live in the same house today.
