RATHDRUM - A 21-year-old Post Falls man was arrested on Sunday night after allegedly leading Rathdrum officers on a vehicle chase and suspected drug use.

Keaton T. Acciavatti was booked into the Kootenai County jail for felony eluding of a police officer, possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia, DUI, driving without privileges, fictitious license plates and no liability insurance.

According to Rathdrum police, officers were dispatched to a possible DUI case at 11:20 p.m. on Sunday on southbound Highway 41 north of Rathdrum. The driver of the blue Chevy pickup had allegedly been driving erratically.

An officer found the truck pulling out of the Deerfield neighborhood north of Rathdrum and traveling south on Highway 41.

The officer attempted to pull the truck over after it failed to stop at a stop sign.

Acciavatti then allegedly accelerated in an attempt to flee the officer and drove through stoplights on Highway 41 and Highway 53. He turned southbound onto Meyer and the truck reached speeds near 80 mph.

After running through the stop sign at Meyer and Boekel, the truck turned into a field near Meyer and Nagel and stopped on Trestle Street.

"He stopped on his own and was arrested without incident," Rathdrum Police Chief Kevin Fuhr said.

Acciavatti was treated at Kootenai Medical Center for minor injuries before being transported to the jail.

He was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

Fuhr said Acciavatti was being interviewed by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department for allegedly striking multiple parked cars in the county before the chase in Rathdrum.

KCSD Maj. Ben Wolfinger said he didn't have any information on those alleged hit-and-run cases on Monday afternoon, adding that any citations would not likely be issued until mid-week and he can't comment on ongoing investigations.

Acciavatti's previous adult booking history at the local jail includes a probation violation in June and burglary and shoplifting in 2009.
