COEUR d'ALENE - A new washing machine will soon be on the way to the Kootenai Humane Society.

An anonymous donor wrote a check for $4,000 to KHS after reading an article in Tuesday's Press that the shelter's washing machine broke down and needed to be replaced.

"The wonderful woman simply stated that she wanted to help us out and pay for the washer," said KHS marketing director Pete Chichester.

For the past month, shelter staff have been making daily trips to a laundromat to clean the bedding for the dogs and cats, at a cost of about $25 a day.

KHS plans to purchase a new, commercial grade washing machine soon, adding it is critical to keeping clean, healthy conditions at the no-kill shelter.

"This equipment will greatly assist us in continuing to provide care and adoption opportunities for our many animals in need of a fresh start," Chichester said.

"KHS would like to give a huge thanks to the community for always answering our calls for help. Your dependable support is the wind in our sails," he added.
