Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Little Kat softball program scheduled for this fall has been canceled.

Concussions

A free presentation titled “Concussion = Brain Injury” will be offered at The Summit Medical Fitness Center, in Kalispell, on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. Dr. Frank Bishop, a neurological surgeon with Kalispell Regional Healthcare’s Department of Neurological Surgery, will lead the hour-long educational session. Sponsors for this event are Glacier Pilot Club, Anchor Club, ThinkFirst, Trauma Nurses Talk Tough and Kalispell Regional Healthcare. For more information, call 751-5775.

Bike race

The Huckleberry 100 Mile Bike Race will take place Saturday, Sept. 15, in and around Flathead Valley through multiple kinds of terrain, around farm land, mountains, valleys and towns. While the main race is about 102 miles long and more suited to hard-core riders, such as visiting 1984 Olympic gold medalist Steve Hegg, riders can opt for the 50-mile, 25-mile or 12-mile course. The Huckleberry 100 first took place 30 years ago.

Le Grizz race set for October

The 31st annual Le Grizz 50 Mile Ultramarathon race will be held along the east side of the Hungry Horse Reservoir on Saturday, Oct. 13. The foot race, sponsored by the Cheetah Herders Athletic Club, is managed primarily to get first-time ultra-distance runners to the finish line. Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
