Libby City officials are seeking proposals from qualified engineering firms for the development, feasibility and design for hydropower generators located both at the proposed dam site at Flower Creek and along the water-transmission lines.

In a correspondence dated Monday, Nov. 19, that was sent to engineering firms, the letter asks that the proposals be written in conjunction with the current water-treatment plant upgrades. It also asks that conceptual cost estimates be provided.

According to the specifications, the project should include hydropower generation within the proposed Flower Creek Dam, power generation at the transmission pipeline and design details associated with feeding that generated power into the existing electrical system.

Libby City Administrator Jim Hammons said the proposal for producing hydro-electric power at the dam is just something the city is considering, and feedback from the proposals will determine whether the city will proceed.

The city has earmarked $17,500 for these proposals.

According to the letter, the proposals are due back at Libby City Hall by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, afterward a review process will follow.
