A man sought in connection with shooting at a law enforcement officer early Saturday has been identified as Mitchell Lee Walck.

Walck, also known as Mark Mackenzie, is a transient known to frequent churches in attempt to get assistance, according to a Post Falls police press release.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, the release said.

The 57-year-old Walck is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 175 pounds, with graying black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing light colored jeans and a brown jacket.

The incident began when deputies tried to stop a pickup truck for a traffic violation on Highway 41, just south of Spirit Lake, before midnight on Friday.

Several agencies, including Spirit Lake, Rathdrum and Post Falls police, and the Idaho State Police, chased the suspect vehicle for 30 minutes.

The pickup eventually left Highway 53, turned onto Bingham Road and stopped at the dead end street. Walck fled on foot, and when an ISP officer gave chase, Walck fired a handgun, the release said. The officer was not hurt.

Walck was last seen on Highway 53 near Dashco in Rathdrum, running north toward Rathdrum Mountain. He eluded police, despite a 12-hour search that included a perimeter and use of a helicopter.

Anyone who sees or has information on Walck's location is asked to call 911.
