Dorothy P. Beadell Freed, 88, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away at Hospice of North Idaho’s Hospice House on Nov. 17, 2012. She was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Wichita, Kan., to Harry F. and Nydia P. Hoopes and was one of four children.

Dorothy grew up during the 1929 depression era and graduated from Naith High School in June 1941. Dorothy married David W. Beadell Sr. on Jan. 12, 1944, in Wichita and raised her family of two children Brenda and David Jr. She enjoyed her job as wife and mother.

Dorothy’s hobbies included cooking, sewing, reading, gardening and crafts including knitting and her one true passion ceramics. Dorothy’s love for ceramics began as a hobby but quickly turned into a full-blown obsession. She learned everything she could and began teaching others the craft. Her next logical step was for her to own her own ceramic shop.

In 1959 Dorothy and her family traveled to visit her brother in Coeur d’Alene and see this beautiful country that he called “Heaven Idaho.” One look and she was hooked. In 1963 Dorothy and her family moved to Coeur d’Alene to start their new life and open her ceramic shop. For 28 years she enjoyed and operated with her husband The Clay Palace Ceramics Shop on Fourth Street. Upon the death of her first husband David Sr. in 1987, she continued to work her business with her son David Jr. In 1991 she decided to sell her business and return in December of that year. Dorothy met and married Irving Freed on Jan. 3, 1991, in Coeur d’Alene and they traveled until his death in 1997.

Dorothy is survived by her son, David W. Beadell Jr. Dorothy is also survived by six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Paul, Virgil and Harry Hoopes; and daughter Brenda H. Bird; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice of North Idaho’s Hospice House for their compassion.

Private services will be held at a later date. You may visit her online memorial at englishfuneralchapel.com.
