Memories are priceless.

But for a price, you can share some of the most memorable events in North Idaho's history with people on your Christmas shopping list.

The heirloom-quality coffee table book "North Idaho Memories: The Early Years: 1800s-1939" is now available for $39.95 at The Press, 201 Second St. in downtown Coeur d'Alene. The book, containing hundreds of memorable photographs and chapter introductions by esteemed local historian Robert Singletary, is a joint project between The Press and the Museum of North Idaho.

"The reaction we've had from people who pre-ordered the book has been amazing," said Publisher Jim Thompson. "North Idaho Memories is exceeding most people's expectations. We're pleased to now offer it for sale to the general public."

The book features sections on Disasters, Recreation and Celebrations, Views and Street Scenes, Commerce, Public Service, Education and more. While Coeur d'Alene is a prominent presence in the publication, virtually all of North Idaho is represented. The opening page of the first chapter shows dozens of tents and soldiers in downtown Wallace during labor unrest in July 1892, and the closing page shows the Worley baseball club around 1936.

"North Idaho Memories" is a limited edition with no plans for future reprintings, Thompson said.

"I expect that the inventory we have on hand will sell out before Christmas, so please don't wait to come in and make your purchase," he said.
