COEUR d'ALENE - Austin Linnemeyer scored 11 of his 15 points in the first quarter and the fifth-ranked (2A) St. Maries Lumberjacks went on to beat the Coeur d'Alene Charter Panthers 59-52 in the Central Idaho League opener for both schools at Holy Family Catholic School on Thursday.

It was also the Lumberjacks' first league game since dropping from the 3A Intermountain League to the 2A classification.

"It was just a battle back and forth," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Chris Pedersen said. "They got hot from the 3-point line in the fourth quarter and it ended up being the difference in the game. It was neck and neck all the way through until the last two minutes. St. Maries has a lot of weapons and there's a reason why they're ranked No. 5."

Christian Pedersen had 18 points and six steals and Chris Adams had 11 rebounds for Coeur d'Alene Charter (2-2, 0-1), which faces Lone Peak of Gallatin Gateway, Mont., tonight at 6 p.m. PST in the first round of the Tiger Tails Tournament in St. Regis, Mont.
