PASCO, Wash. - There were plenty of new faces - and rebounds - as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings opened their season with a 59-51 win over Chiawana of Pasco on Friday night.

Coeur d'Alene outrebounded the RiverHawks 55-30, and outscored them in each of the final three quarters.

"It was our opener and their fourth game, so I was a little concerned with that," Vikings coach Kent Liess said. "We were fired up, our defense was good, and our rebounding is why we won the game."

A trio of Vikings scored in double figures: Jared Moore (15 points), Tony Nacarrato (14) and Colby Daniels (13). Cayden Cazier led Chiawana with 15 points.

"We're a young team; five sophomores played tonight, and overall we played well," Liess said. "But we had 21 turnovers, which made the game closer than it needed to be."

Coeur d'Alene will stay in the Tri-Cities and face Kennewick tonight at 7:30.
