The U.S. Air Force’s elite Thunderbirds are coming to the Flathead Valley next July for the Mountain Madness 2013 air show.

“It’s official,” said John Vander Laan of Kalispell, who was in Las Vegas meeting with officials of the Thunderbirds flight demonstration team.

Vander Laan will direct the upcoming air show. He also directed previous air shows in Kalispell in 1999 and 2005.

Dates for the air show here will be July 20-21.

The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Glacier Park International Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration, applied for the show that’s expected to draw roughly 40,000 spectators over the two days.
