COEUR d'ALENE - One was described as "scruffy," another as "very sweaty," and the third as just "average."

The three men - all 25 to 30 years old - entered Crow's Nest Antique at 416 E. Sherman Ave. together on Friday, the store's owner told police.

One of the men began looking in a glass case and the two others requested the owner's assistance with some knives kept in a different glass case toward the rear of the store.

After assisting the two men the other man left the store, the owner told police. The other two left shortly afterward.

The owner then noticed a glass case had been opened where the one man had been, and merchandise was missing from the display area inside the case, a police report said.

The owner reported more than $6,000 worth of property was stolen, including rings, jewels and a $3,500 brooch.

That same day at Wiggett's Antique Marketplace at 115 S. Fourth St. a similar incident occurred, according to a police report.

At Wiggett's three men were together looking at "silver spoons" and salt and pepper shakers.

A store employee removed some items from a glass case for the men to examine.

The employee reported a $50 sterling silver spoon and sterling silver salt and pepper shakers valued at $55 were stolen, police said.

The employee in Wiggett's described the men as 25 to 30 years old. One was thin with baggy pants and blond hair. Another was "heavy set" and "sweaty." The third man was described as being of average build with no other descriptive qualities, police said.

Owners of the two antique stores said surveillance video showed the same three men were involved in both instances.
