Gladys Marie (Dahl) Henriksen passed peacefully Dec. 6, 2012, at the Guardian Angel Home in Post Falls. Gladys was born to Thomas and Emma (Hookland) Dahl on Aug. 14, 1917, near St. John, N.D., the third of five children.

She grew up in North Dakota and there married Pete Henriksen where they farmed. After World War II they mined gold with Pete’s sister and brother-in-law in Alaska. They lived for a brief time in Rexburg, Mont., upon their return from Alaska. In 1948 they settled on the south shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene on what is now Harlow Point Road near Harrison where they had a small farm. There Gladys was mother to her family and the “go-to” person supporting an extended family of relatives who located to North Idaho in the 1950s. She was at the center of family activities and kept a large and productive garden.

As many of the extended family moved on, Gladys devoted more time to fishing and her grandchildren. When Pete suffered a stroke in 1982 she cared for him at home until his passing in 1985 and at the same time was companion and caregiver to her great-grandchildren. She was active with the Senior Citizens and the Grange. Many happy hours were spent around the kitchen table playing cards with family and friends. Gladys moved to Post Falls in 2003.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, their spouses and a stepson, Duane Henriksen and wife Una Mae. She is survived by her daughter, Iris Issler of Post Falls; son Larry Henriksen and wife Fran of Bellevue; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, also at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Idaho Youth Ranch, 5465 W Irving St., Boise, ID 83706 or at youthranch.org.
