COEUR d'ALENE - Thanks to a pair of awards, Figpickels Toy Emporium has 1,000 toys to give away.

Brett and Susan Sommer, co-owners of the famous toy store, were recently awarded the grand prize in a national toy industry contest that, coupled with another award, has given them 1,000 toys they have to give away.

"We're going to spread the love," Susan said.

The award was based on community outreach, and around 600 stores applied. Figpickels was one of two to win. They'll spread the toys to programs across the region to ensure deserving kids get them in time for Christmas.

Young patients at Kootenai Health and Sacred Heart Medical Center will get some, as will Toys For Tots, the Boys and Girls Club and Children's Village.

"For us, it's like being Santa Claus," Susan said.
