RATHDRUM - Alex Opland had 19 points and four assists for the Lakeland Hawks, who went on a 17-3 run to start the fourth quarter and defeated the East Valley Knights 60-51 in a nonleague basketball game Tuesday night at Hawk Court.

Opland, Matt Horne, Tyrel Derrick and Randy McCabe hit 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter for Lakeland (2-2), which hosts Colville on Thursday.

"We just started to playing better defense," Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. "We got a bit of a lead and they started fouling and we were able to close it out."

Derrick had 10 points and Scott Simpson grabbed 10 rebounds for Lakeland.

Cole Hofstee scored 21 points for East Valley.

RICHLAND, Wash. - The visiting Trojans pulled within three twice in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get over the hump in the loss to the Falcons in nonleague play.

Post Falls (3-3) committed 21 turnovers and went to the foul line just four times, making three. Hanford was 17 of 25 from the line.

Corey Koski had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Trojans, Matt Hillman added 12 points, Keaton Corr had 11 points and Timmy Mueller grabbed six rebounds.

"They just jumped out on us, and we couldn't overcome it," Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. "I was very happy with Matt Hillman, he got us back in the game by making some tough shots. And Keaton Corr played well off the bench. But we had 21 turnovers, and that's unacceptable. Careless turnovers are killing us."

Joe Douglas scored a game-high 27 points for Hanford, and teammate Jalen Watson added 18.

Post Falls is idle until Dec. 21, when it hosts Lakeland in the Battle for the Prairie Pig.
