PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Coeur d'Alene falls at Lewiston in overtime

LEWISTON - Karlee Wilson's layin with less than 20 seconds left gave Lewiston the lead for good, and the Bengals went on to beat the Coeur d'Alene Vikings 43-41 in overtime in 5A Inland Empire League girls basketball play Tuesday night at Booth Hall.

Wilson's 3-pointer with just under 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter forced overtime for Lewiston (7-2, 1-1), the two-time defending state champions. Wilson, who has signed with Idaho, finished with 19 points.

Sydney Williams scored a game-high 24 points for Coeur d'Alene (6-3, 0-1), which travels to Shadle Park of Spokane on Saturday.

RICHLAND, Wash. - Hallie Gennett scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in the first quarter as the Trojans beat the Falcons in a nonleague game.

"We kind of started like we just stepped off a three-hour bus ride in the first half," Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. "Hallie kept us going in the first quarter and we started to play a little better defense in the third quarter and kind of got it going a little bit in the third quarter."

Brooke Litalien scored 13 points and Danielle Failor had eight rebounds for Post Falls (9-0), which hosts West Valley next Tuesday.

RATHDRUM - Kacie Derby had 10 rebounds and five steals for the Hawks, who lost to the Knights in a nonleague game at Hawk Court.

"We played a pretty smart first half, but turned it over a few too many times," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "We had some good shots and some good looks, but they didn't fall. We couldn't get anything to drop and they pulled away."

Josie Coder scored seven points and Madison Seymour had six rebounds for Lakeland (2-9), which hosts Colville on Thursday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Lexi Turkenburg had 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to lead the host Panthers past Valley Christian in a nonleague game at Holy Family Catholic School.

"They're a young team, but so are we," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Doug Grant said. "I was real pleased with the outcome. We missed some layins and struggled with the inside game, but it was just one of those games where we were better than they were."

Emily Verhaeghe had nine points and 10 rebounds for Coeur d'Alene Charter (7-1), which travels to Mt. St. Michael's on Saturday.

Lindy Riggan scored 19 points for Valley Christian (0-4).

HARRISON FLATS - Jordan Browning had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Miners past the Warriors in a North Star League game.

"We had quite a few turnovers in the first half," Kootenai coach Mike LaFountaine said. "We had some shots we wanted to take, but kept turning it over. We're just trying to get better each game."

Ellison Schultz had 10 rebounds and five points for Kootenai (1-9, 0-2 NSL), which played without leading scorer Katey Mae McInturff, who was unable to play due to a meeting in Coeur d'Alene.

"We had to step up and play without her and had some balanced scoring for the first time all year," LaFountaine said. "We just need to take better care of the ball."

Emily Nelson scored 10 points for Wallace (3-5, 1-0), which travels to Mullan on Friday.

Kootenai hosts Clark Fork on Saturday.
