Snyder Guard Station needs host for 2013
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 7 months AGO
BONNERS FERRY - The Bonners Ferry Ranger District is seeking volunteers for the Snyder Guard Station Host Position starting in the spring 2013.
"This is an ideal position for friendly, high energy folks looking for an inexpensive quiet setting in return for host responsibilities on a National Forest treasure," said a press release.
The Forest Service will provide a newer, single bedroom house on site for the host. This position is intended for individuals or couples, but due to the small size of the home it is not adequate for couples with children.
Applicants must be willing to commit to a full season, which is approximately one year. Depending on job performance there may be an opportunity to renew the contract for an additional year. The Forest Service will not consider applicants that have full-time employment elsewhere because it is important to have a host available on site.
A couple may apply if one person has other employment and one person intends to assume the hosting responsibilities. There is a small storage shed for private possessions. The house includes appliances and is partially furnished.
During the winter months there is a monthly use fee of $225 charged to the volunteer to help defray utilities and maintenance costs at the host house.
Applications will be accepted through Feb. 15. An application packet may be obtained at the Bonners Ferry Ranger District, 6286 Main St., Bonners Ferry, 267-5561 or via email request with attention to: pahart@fs.fed.us, spetesch@fs.fed.us or ssteinhorst@fs.fed.us.
The application packet includes a list of job responsibilities. Selection will be made by March 1 and the host will be placed in late April. There is some flexibility with the start date.
