POST FALLS - A 22-year-old Post Falls man who had three felony warrants was arrested after a foot chase with police and hiding out in the attic of his girlfriend's apartment on Wednesday afternoon.

Kyle J. Lund was arrested at the apartment near Seventh and Catherine.

"He was found covered in insulation," police Chief Scot Haug said.

His girlfriend was also arrested for allegedly harboring Lund. Police sources didn't immediately know the girlfriend's name.

Capt. Pat Knight said a ceiling tile was missing and police could hear Lund moving in the attic, but they did not know if he had a weapon. He allegedly failed to comply to verbal commands to come out and threats that a K-9 would be used.

Police used a camera on the end of a pole to look into the attic, but Lund could not be seen. At that point, it became obvious he was hiding under insulation.

"Once we called him out, he showed his hands and cooperated," Knight said.

Police received a tip that Lund had been staying at the apartment and was spotted leaving by a detective. When approached by the detective, a foot chase that led to the apartment ensued.

At least two children at the residence were placed into a shelter by the Department of Health and Welfare.

Lund was wanted on three felony warrants of $25,000 each - failure to appear for grand theft, parole violation for theft by receiving stolen property and a parole violation for forgery.

His previous adult bookings at the Kootenai County Jail were for grand theft, obstructing, forgery and possession of stolen property in December 2011; obstructing and urinating in public in August 2011, multiple counts of grand theft in June 2011, reckless driving and multiple counts of fraudulent use of a credit card in May 2010; probation violation in December 2009; and DUI in September 2009.

Additional details were unavailable at press time.

The Frederick Post Kindercenter on Mullan Avenue was locked down as a precaution around 4 p.m. after students had gone home.

"There were only a few adults left in the building," Superintendent Jerry Keane said.
