A very, merry Netflix Christmas - 2012 edition

Good or bad, I will watch any holiday-themed movie or television special. Give me "It's a Wonderful Life" AND "Jingle All the Way." Show me "A Christmas Story" AND "The Star Wars Holiday Special."

Luckily, Netflix Instant Streaming offers a wide spectrum of Christmas programming - highs that include Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and extreme lows like "The Search for Santa Paws."

Here's a rundown of some of the stuff I've actually watched so far this year. Just keep your judgment to yourself.

12 Dates of Christmas (2011)

Amy Smart stars in this ABC Family movie about a lovelorn gal who relives Christmas Eve until she gets that date with Mark-Paul Gosselaar exactly right. Major points deducted for ripping off one of the greatest comedies of all time ("Groundhog Day"), but "12 Dates" at least recognizes the awesomeness of an evening with Zack Morris from "Saved by the Bell." Special treat: "Groundhog Day" and the entire series of "Saved by the Bell" are also available for streaming.

Kung Fu Panda Holiday (2010)

The folks at Dreamworks Animation actually put a lot of care into most of their TV specials, and "Panda" recruits the franchise's original cast (including Jack Black and Angelina Jolie) for this lighthearted and sweet little adventure. Also available: The Dreamworks Holiday "Classics" collection includes a couple of decent "Madagascar" specials, but unfortunately substitutes "Shrek the Halls" for the far inferior "Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular."

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The new deal between Netflix and Disney offers more than just straight-to-video, talking dog movies. This stop-motion musical from the minds of Tim Burton and Henry Selick works best as a bridge between Halloween and Christmas seasons, but it's a quality palette cleanser from the more saccharine offerings as well.

Snowglobe (2007)

Eesh. This ABC Family movie makes "12 Dates of Christmas" look like a masterpiece. Singer Christina Milian visits the world inside a magical snowglobe and finds a really weird boyfriend. Not an enjoyable viewing experience.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas

Carol (1962)

Just take comfort in the fact that Hollywood hasn't yet made a live action update of Mr. Magoo like they have with "The Smurfs," "Scooby Doo," "Garfield" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks." Enjoy it before it's ruined as well.

Snowmen (2011)

The prospect of Ray Liotta and Christopher Lloyd (Great Scott!) in a movie together is an irresistible prospect... until the opening minutes when a young boy announces that he's dying of cancer. No parent wants to watch this.

A Very Sunny Christmas (2010)

The one-hour Christmas special for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," otherwise known as the sickest, most deranged comedy on television. It's hilarious, if you're into profane Claymation and an unfortunate biting incident involving Santa Claus. You've been warned.
