ANNIVERSARIES

Vic and Kathy Eachon

65th Anniversary

Vic and Kathy Eachon, of Hayden, will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary with their family. The couple were married Dec. 20, 1947, in Post Falls.

Their children and spouses are Judy and Chris Thompson of Sandpoint, Dave and Carol Eachon of Hayden, Susie and Darwin Huber of Beulah, N.D., and Steve and Patti Eachon of Rathdrum. They have eight grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Eugene and Anna Jo Austin

65th Anniversary

Eugene and Anna Jo Austin, of Dalton Gardens, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, from noon to 4 p.m. at the home of their daughter at 1622 West Garwood Road in Rathdrum.

They were married in Helena, Mont., on Dec. 20, 1947. A veteran of World War II and Korea, Gene retired as a major in the Air Force and taught math and calculus in the Kellogg School District, and at North Idaho College. Jo taught science to more than 3,000 students in her 25-year career.

They will be joined at the open house by their six children, Tom (Chris) Austin of Campbell, Calif., Beth (Ed) Hatcher of Dalton Gardens, Dan (Linda) Austin of Spokane Valley, John (Deena) Austin of Harrison, Susan (Wayne) Morrison of Rathdrum and Patty (Jimmy) Morrison of Hayden; and by most of their 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Their friends are also welcome to stop by and say hello.

Gary and Marlys Walker

50th Anniversary

Gary and Marlys (Marquardt) Walker were married Nov. 23, 1962, in Bottineau, N.D. They celebrated with a surprise party at the Parkside Activity Center in Coeur d'Alene on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, with family and friends.

They have two children: a daughter, Tammi (Kevin) Peterson and grandsons, Kyle, Trevor and Blake; and a son, Todd (Katrina) Walker and grandsons, Derek and Alex. They all hosted the party.

Gary is retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Marlys from Panhandle Health.

They are enjoying their retirement at their Post Falls home and traveling.

50th Anniversary

At the Eagles Lodge in Coeur d'Alene, a gathering of family and friends celebrated Gary and Carol's 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24, 2012.

The event was hosted by their daughters, Tammy and spouse Shawn McKay of Spokane, Jody and spouse John Howerton of Mead, Wash.; and Shelley and spouse Rob Benko of Camas, Wash. Gary and Carol have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

They were married at St. Aloysius Church in Spokane on Nov. 24, 1962. The couple were born, raised and lived in Spokane until retirement, when they moved to their home on Lake Coeur d'Alene. Gary was in metal sales and Carol was in banking. They now enjoy fishing on the lake, golfing and traveling.

50th Anniversary

John and Shirley Prosch celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Clark House mansion in Hayden Lake.

John and Shirley were married on Nov. 24, 1962, at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Fifth and Reed in Coeur d'Alene.

Dot Neirinckx

90th Birthday

Happy 90th birthday to Dot Neirinckx!

When Dot Neirinckx was born, Warren G. Harding was president of the United States. That same year the Lincoln Memorial was dedicated, King Tut's tomb was entered, the Ottoman Empire ended and the U.S. got its first female Senator. Dot lived through the Great Depression and the Second World War.

The oldest of four children, Dorothy Mae was born on Dec. 16, 1922, to John and Caroline Phillips in Du Quoin, Ill.

She helped raise her younger siblings and looked after the household while both parents worked full-time. Dot graduated from Northbrook High School, shortly after married Edmond Neirinckx on Oct. 5, 1940, and continued to live in the Chicago area until the '70s when they moved to West Frankfort, Ill. They were married for 49 1/2 years when he passed. They had two sons, John Edward and Thomas Richard, whom she frequently took as boys, to Liberty Field to watch the Chicago Cubs play ball.

Besides her two sons, Dot has seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She has lived in Coeur d'Alene for the past 19 years after moving from Illinois. She has enjoyed traveling with family and the Coeur d'Alene Rambling Rovers to Italy, Greece, Germany, Russia, Jamaica, Mexico and other fun places. Dot was the chairman of her quilting group in West Frankfort. She is an avid bird watcher and dog lover, keeps active walking with the Coeur d'Alene Striders, and spends lots of time with family that lives in the Coeur d'Alene area.

Family and Friends all wish Dot a very wonderful 90th Birthday!

BIRTHS

Isaac Allen Pelphrey was born at 8:05 p.m. Nov. 21, 2012, to Karen and Mark Pelphrey of Hayden. He weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz. and was 21.5 inches in length. Brother is Brock.

Kingsley Rose Coleman was born at 5:37 p.m. Dec. 5, 2012, to Taylor Jensen and Zack Coleman of Coeur d'Alene. She weighed 7 lbs. 2 oz. and was 20 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Jeff and Sheri Jensen. Paternal grandmother is Cassey Coleman.

Ellianna Kay Bateman was born Dec. 8, 2012, to Lacieann Burk and Chris Bateman of Spokane, at Deaconess Medical Center. She weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. Sisters are Angela Bateman, 5, Gabriel Bateman, 4, and Pandora Bateman, 2. Maternal grandmother is Deborah Burk. Paternal grandparents are Sharon and Robert Bateman. Great-grandparents are Phyllis and Bud Thornton.

MILITARY

Air Force Airman Joseph T. Klein graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Klein is the grandson of Eileen and John Hand of Post Falls.

He is a 2011 graduate of Snohomish High School in Washington.

Marine Corps Sgt. James M. Armstrong has been named Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton and MCI West Noncomissioned Officer of the Quarter.

Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments, and community service and support.

Armstrong is an aircraft rescue firefighting mechanic assigned to the Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting at Camp Pendleton, Calif. The sergeant has served in the military for five years.

He is the son of Dirk Armstrong of Post Falls and Susan Hillgren of Port Angeles, Wash. His wife, Kendra, is the daughter of David and Carla Sue of Port Angeles.

Armstrong graduated in 2005 from Port Angeles High School, Wash.

Marine Corps Pvt. Brittanie N. Smith, daughter of Ryan Smith, of Spirit Lake, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

For 13 weeks, Smith stayed committed during some of the world's most demanding entry-level military training in order to be transformed from civilian to Marine instilled with pride, discipline and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Training subjects included close-order drill, marksmanship with an M-16A4 rifle, physical fitness, martial arts, swimming, military history, customs and courtesies.

One week prior to graduation, Smith endured The Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits' minds and bodies. Upon completion, recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.

Smith is a 2012 graduate of East Lake High School in Spokane Valley.
